<title>057 Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio - Blind Blake (Blake Alphonso Higgs) Special</title>

I've wanted to do this for a while, Blind Blake, Bahamian Calypsonian (Some might say Goombayist, if it was a word!), hardly known to our world now, his strident voice and indomitable spirit comes through these 50 year old recordings as strongly as it must have rung out over the dining tables' of rich Americans visiting the island of Grand Bahama from the 1930s onwards.

Little is known about this once popular Island entertainer, all that is left are memories and the recordings of the American Recording and Transcription Company, or ART records for short. I discovered him languishing in a bin of old records in a Charity shop, fell in love and then spent serious money collecting other Lps in the series! Typical!

These tunes are offered to you alongside an informative, though somewhat stilted 'lecture' ;-) from yours truly,

I really hope you like this stuff.... Regards,

Mikey

A special offering, a once in a lifetime chance to hear an entire Lp. (which is 51 years old) of Jamaican Mento, played by the Montego Bay Beach Hotel Calypso Band (featuring Lord Lebby).
I recently found this Lp and wanted to share it with you, it's a lovely taste of late 50s beach resort hotel flavour, Mento played by a really rather good band... I hope you like it, normal service will be resumed asap.

Tracks are:~

Limbo
Back to Back, Belly to Belly
Red Head
Matilda
Maintainance
Mary Ann
Bloodshot Eyes
Hold 'Im Joe
Jamaica Fashion

Once in a lifetime comes an opportunity to witness a miracle, once in everyone's life there comes a moment that will define the rest of their life.... for some it was the Moon landing, for others it will be the jet planes that flew into the twin towers, but for no one, no one at all, will the defining moment be.... the day that Bigmikey and Rankin' Ian got together and produced this show,... even though it is a small work of genius, a nugget of determined effort, and an example to all of how not to prduce a slick and prfessional radio programme. BUT THEN WHO CARES... you know what to expect, we've all been here before, and for some reason you people LOVE IT!

Here are some tracks that we play on the show....

Blind Blake - Delia Gone / Derrick Morgan - Mow Sen Wah / The Silvertones - Raindrops / Slim Smith and the Techniques - Telling Lies / The Silvertones - It's Real / Delroy Wilson - Till I Die (Just Like A River) / Delroy Wilson - This life Makes Me Wonder / Tinga Stewart and Clint Eastwood - Dry Up Your Tears / Nicodemus - Tubby's Daddy / Josey Wales - Bobo Dread / Carl Meeks - Haul and Pull Up Selector / Clint Eastwood - Primo Ballareena / Black diciples and Jack Ruby - Free Rhodesia / Shenley and Lunan - Something Is On My Mind / B.B. Seaton - Rub It Down / Blind Blake - Goombay Drums

A Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio Special

Yep it's yer old mate Mikey, another day another.... dollar? Well not quite, particularly as I got the push from my job recently, still the occassion is good fodder for a themed podcast... Money Worries, because that's surely what I've got at the moment... Amazing to me that they're still paying Bankers their bonuses, that they aren't being made redundant, that they are secure in their jobs, and yet the tax on my last wage packet will go some way to propping up a situation of their own making, caused by their lack of foresight, and their greed, a situation that they were warned about.

Tracklist -

Fatman Riddim Section - Unemployment Rock
Junior Byles - Poor Chubby
Johnny Clarke and Tad Iwah - Poor Man's Cry
Clint Eastwood - Natty Dread Is A Working Man
Pat Kelly - Workman's Song
Pat Kelly - I Don't Want To Go
Sons Of Jah - Working People
Frats Quintet - Mama Me Wan Fe Work
Carl Bryan - Money Generator
Alerth Bedasse with Chin's Calypso Sextet - No Money No Music
Misty In Roots - Economical Slavery

Are you one of the many who've told me over the last years that I don't play enough Dub tunes on the show? If so, you should enjoy this, an entire podcast, No1 in a two cast series, where I concentrate entirely on the Dubwise side of Jamaican music, (actually there's non Jamaican stuff on here too!), it's all about the vibe, it doesn't strictly have to be pure version, you can see that from the track list below. You can expect some strange sound effects and general fun in the edit! As always we need your money to keep going, see the details after the tracklist to see how you can help us. Tah very much.

Tracks are :

King Tubby and Glen Brown - Version '78 Style
Dadawah - 72 Nations
Alpha and Omega with The Diciples - Dancing on a Rainbow
Ja-Man All-Stars - Herb Cutter
African Headcharge - Off The Beaten Track
Plant Up - Prince Far I
Low Gravity (or is it Mansion of Invention?) - Prince Far I and the Arabs
King Tubby - Death Trap
Bullwackies - Tribal Dub
Prince Jammy - Jammy's A Satta
Scientist - Laser Attack
King Tubby - Pegasus Rock
Treasure Isle - De Pauper A Dub
Lee Scratch Perry / Upsetters - Underground
Treasure Isle - Top Ranking

It's simple, a podcast dedicated to a show I nearly put together, one that was halted by a car crash, and some Dancehall....,
I guess it's an original idea, if a bit of a tongue twister!
So it's a bit of a Mish Mash Up really then, confused, poorly in focus, rambling, just like your host.... I hope you enjoy it, as much as I enjoy putting these together for you're listening pleasure.

So in any weather, good or bad, happy or sad, you know, Bigmikeydread... is Super Bad...

Tracks are :

Barrington Levy - Love Your Brotherman
Admiral Bailey - Horse Tonic

<title>BMD RR meets HOR Inna Buxted Station</title>
<description>&lt;img src="http://bigmikeydread.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/28672/0x0_1210909.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bigmikeydread Meets House Of Reggae Inna Buxted Station
- Aka 'Speak Up Ian'!

At a secret location somewhere near Buxted in East Sussex, just off the A22, down the road from Uckfield,.... long time friends and Reggae Music spars Ian 'Rankin' Causer and Bigmikey 'Mikey' the tonsils Dread 'Murphy' meet at a small rural railway station.

In the depths of human history are contained gem like moments when human kind has advanced itself by a leap rather than a step. Every now and then two disparate elements combine to create a crucible for change, a moment of pure genius, a new species. It was with this in mind that House of Reggae met Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio, to creat a wonderful new creature. Instead, after 2 hours in the studio a wobbly, poorly stitched Frankenstein like monster of a musical show was all we had to show for years of effort and strivation! Listen and endure, or alternatively.... enjoy!

<itunes:summary>Bigmikeydread Meets House Of Reggae Inna Buxted Station

Listen and endure, or alternatively.... enjoy!
