057 Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio - Blind Blake (Blake Alphonso Higgs) Special I've wanted to do this for a while, Blind Blake, Bahamian Calypsonian (Some might say Goombayist, if it was a word!), hardly known to our world now, his strident voice and indomitable spirit comes through these 50 year old recordings as strongly as it must have rung out over the dining tables' of rich Americans visiting the island of Grand Bahama from the 1930s onwards. Little is known about this once popular Island entertainer, all that is left are memories and the recordings of the American Recording and Transcription Company, or ART records for short. I discovered him languishing in a bin of old records in a Charity shop, fell in love and then spent serious money collecting other Lps in the series! Typical! In the depths of human history are contained gem like moments when human kind has advanced itself by a leap rather than a step. Every now and then two disparate elements combine to create a crucible for change, a moment of pure genius, a new species.
