A Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio Special

Yep it's yer old mate Mikey, another day another.... dollar? Well not quite, particularly as I got the push from my job recently, still the occassion is good fodder for a themed podcast... Money Worries, because that's surely what I've got at the moment... Amazing to me that they're still paying Bankers their bonuses, that they aren't being made redundant, that they are secure in their jobs, and yet the tax on my last wage packet will go some way to propping up a situation of their own making, caused by their lack of foresight, and their greed, a situation that they were warned about.

Are you one of the many who've told me over the last years that I don't play enough Dub tunes on the show? If so, you should enjoy this, an entire podcast, No1 in a two cast series, where I concentrate entirely on the Dubwise side of Jamaican music, (actually there's non Jamaican stuff on here too!), it's all about the vibe, it doesn't strictly have to be pure version, you can see that from the track list below. You can expect some strange sound effects and general fun in the edit! As always we need your money to keep going, see the details after the tracklist to see how you can help us. Tah very much.

Tracks are :

King Tubby and Glen Brown - Version '78 Style
Dadawah - 72 Nations
Alpha and Omega with The Diciples - Dancing on a Rainbow
Ja-Man All-Stars - Herb Cutter
African Headcharge - Off The Beaten Track
Plant Up - Prince Far I
Low Gravity (or is it Mansion of Invention?) - Prince Far I and the Arabs
King Tubby - Death Trap
Bullwackies - Tribal Dub
Prince Jammy - Jammy's A Satta
Scientist - Laser Attack
King Tubby - Pegasus Rock
Treasure Isle - De Pauper A Dub
Lee Scratch Perry / Upsetters - Underground
Treasure Isle - Top Ranking

It's simple, a podcast dedicated to a show I nearly put together, one that was halted by a car crash, and some Dancehall....,
I guess it's an original idea, if a bit of a tongue twister!
So it's a bit of a Mish Mash Up really then, confused, poorly in focus, rambling, just like your host.... I hope you enjoy it, as much as I enjoy putting these together for you're listening pleasure.

So in any weather, good or bad, happy or sad, you know, Bigmikeydread... is Super Bad...

Tracks are :

The Stranglers said it!
In the last few years so many luminaries of Jamaican music have passed on. Coxsone Dodd, Joe Gibbs, Alton Ellis, Mikey Dread, and now, just in the last few weeks, Byron Lee.
Jamaicans celebrate life not death, and in that light I offer a collection of music by artists, producers and engineers, sadly no longer with us in body, but definately still here in musical spirit! This is definately 'A Big Peoples Music' show, as a man called Gordy would say.... Let the Music Play...Listen on and you will see...

Tracks include -

Freddy McKay - Slip Away
Alton Ellis - I'll Be Waiting
Dennis Brown - There Must Be A Fight
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Jailhouse
Jackie Mittoo - Napoleon Solo
Hugh Mundell - Africa Must Be Free
Augustus Pablo - The Way
Jacob Miller - Ghetto On Fire
Barry Brown - Step It Up
Mikey Dread DATC - Control Tower Dub
Don Drummond - Burning Torch
Leroy Smart - Let Your Heart Be Pure
King Tubby - Anti Christ Rock
Slim Smith - The New Boss
Sir Gibbs (Joe Gibbs) - People Grudgeful
Tommy McCook and John 'Dizzy' Moore - Sound & Soul
I-Roy - Wise Man A Rasta Man
Ranking Prince Far I - So Long
Joseph Hill (Culture) - So Long

In my opinion this is one of the nicest selections I've done for a time, I hope you think so too...

Bigmikeydread presents... Alton Ellis - R.I.P.

<img src="http://bigmikeydread.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/28672/0x0_1317059.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio - alton Ellis - A Tribute

Alton Ellis one of the greatest Jamaican singers has died, here is my tribute to him. Strange becuase I'm not a massive Alton fan, it's just that his death signifies something, most of our heroes are passing away, the times they are a changin'.
It took this show to convince me that I need to re-access, and listen to more Alton!

**** Note - Unfortunately I've buggered the vocal channel on this recording and it is too loud on occassion, I don't have the time in my busy life these days to re-do and so I ask you all to forgive me this once? I'll be following this show with one, sooner than you think hopefully entitled 'No More Heroes' the theme of which should be obvious to you now....
-----------------------------------------*
No track listing on this occassion, though Alton being Alton, expect, Treasure Isle and Studio One in full effect!
-----------------------------------------*

BMD RR meets HOR Inna Buxted Station

<img src="http://bigmikeydread.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/28672/0x0_1210909.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Bigmikeydread Meets House Of Reggae Inna Buxted Station
- Aka 'Speak Up Ian'!

At a secret location somewhere near Buxted in East Sussex, just off the A22, down the road from Uckfield,.... long time friends and Reggae Music spars Ian 'Rankin' Causer and Bigmikey 'Mikey' the tonsils Dread 'Murphy' meet at a small rural railway station.

In the depths of human history are contained gem like moments when human kind has advanced itself by a leap rather than a step. Every now and then two disparate elements combine to create a crucible for change, a moment of pure genius, a new species. It was with this in mind that House of Reggae met Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio, to creat a wonderful new creature. Instead, after 2 hours in the studio a wobbly, poorly stitched Frankenstein like monster of a musical show was all we had to show for years of effort and strivation! Listen and endure, or alternatively.... enjoy!

Tracks are:

Just tunes that turn me on, no not in some kinky sexual way, but ones that have had me dancing all over the house on those all too rare occassions when you find a new tune that really stands out as something special. Mainly 7" selections, with a few tracks from Lps. This podcast features a few 'extra tunes' from one of my favourite vocal groups, the Pioneers.
I hope you get a lift from this musical selection....

Roy Shirley and The Pioneers - You'll Never Get Away
The Pioneers - Easy Come Easy Go
Alerth Bedasse - Monkey's Opinion
The Pioneers - Long Up Yuh Mouth
Glen Washington - This Feeling Of Love
I-Roy - Let Me Tell You Boy
Don Cornell and the Eternals - Let's Start Over Again
Freddie McKay - Go On This Way
Delroy Wilson - Love Got Me Doing Things
Bunny Wailer - Rule Dance Hall + Dub
Josey Wales - No Funny Trick

Just recently some changes have been made to Podomatic without any consultation with those of us helping to create a very popular place to get your podcasting needs met. It's quite possible that Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio will be leaving Podomatic before too long. This will unfortunately mean that the RSS feed and therefore automatic updates won't happen for you (if using a podcatcher like itues) until you have that new RSS feed, however we're not going just yet, and I'll put a note on the fridge door before I leave so you know just where we've moved to, don't worry.
